The Durham Story
Stop 1: UXBRIDGE HISTORICAL CENTRE (1 hour)
With over 6,000 artifacts on display over five acres, you’ll get a true taste of what is what like to live in Durham back in Temperance times. Experience the exhibit on bootlegging while the Bootlegger Band plays hits from the 20s. Keep your eyes peeled when you leave the joint…there are some bad eggs about. You may witness a hop-on as a bootlegger tries to evade the fuzz!
Stop 2: YORK DURHAM HERITAGE RAILWAY (1 hour 45 mins)
Back in the day, if you wanted to get somewhere fast, you took the train! This railway dates back to the 1870s and on this stop you’ll savour local fare expertly paired with local beer from The Second Wedge Brewing Co. As you ride the rails, colourful characters will regale you with train tales, local yarns and good-old fashioned live tunes.
Stop 3: THE SECOND WEDGE BREWING CO. (1 hour)
Meet the makers of fine ales and lagers at this plucky brew pub in the heart of Uxbridge. Sip flights of craft brew – including Gin Joint, which was created especially for the Temperance and Temptation tour.
Stop 4: BETHEL CEMETERY (GREENBANK) (30 mins)
The views at Bethel Cemetery are the cat’s pajamas! Soak up the copacetic vistas as you visit the final resting places of Durham’s founding families. Watch out as you hop back on the bus – a ragamuffin may try to commandeer the whole jitney!
Stop 5: OLD FLAME BREWING CO. (1 hour)
This outstanding brewery operates out of a post-and-beam carriage factory from the 1870s. This here’s the Real McCoy! Here, you’ll sample incredible local brews paired with a light meal. Your favourite local characters will be on hand to spin some yarns about the good old days.
Stop 6: Hilton Garden Inn (1 hours 15 mins)
Check-in, freshen up and get ready for a fun-filled evening of great food, drinks and entertainment!
Stop 7: BROCK STREET BREWING COMPANY (2.5 hours)
It’s Saturday night and we’re puttin’ on the Ritz at Brock Street Brewing Company! This award-winning brewery is opening the doors for all the flappers and hep cats to enjoy. Here, you’ll savour a swell meal served up with a side of sweet tunes by the Bootlegger Band. The ol’ yarn-spinners will return to regale you with tales of days gone by.
Stop 1: GALLUCCI WINERY (1 hour)
Enjoy a lazy morning before we hop in the jitney to the next juice joint. You’ll take in a tour of this charming old-world winery and sample their award-winning wines. Be sure to ask about the family-run winery’s thrilling secret – we heard that back in Temperance times, a train exploded near where the winery is today. In modern times, grapes are harvested from the vineyard where pieces of this unfortunate train may have landed. Maybe that’s why their wines taste so good!
Stop 2: LAST STRAW DISTILLERY (1 hour)
These modern-day bootleggers taught themselves the art of making blackstrap rum in a still. Our tour wraps up with a behind-the-scenes tour complete with an exclusive (and delicious!) preview of this award-winner distiller’s next big hit.
The Bootlegger Band will greet you at this location and keep your eyes open for Mickey the bootlegger!
These exclusive, intimate and immersive VIP tours are filled with one-of-a kind experiences, performances, music and history. You’ll stay at the finest hotels while enjoying the decadent cuisine, award winning wines, specialty brews and top shelf cocktails. It truly is the “cat’s pajamas.”
