The York Story
Stop 1: LAST STRAW DISTILLERY (70 mins)
These modern-day bootleggers taught themselves the art of making blackstrap rum in a still. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour and sip an exclusive preview of this award-winner distiller’s next big hit.
The Bootlegger Band will greet you at this location and keep your eyes open for Mickey the bootlegger!
Stop 2: GROUND BURGER BAR (1 hour)
Once upon a time, there was a fur trading post – now it’s a fabulous eatery! Enjoy a complimentary lunch and drink and watch history come alive through our trio of characters.
Stop 3: YORK DURHAM HERITAGE RAILWAY (2 hours)
Back in the day, if you wanted to get somewhere fast, you took the train! This railway dates back to the 1870s and on this stop you’ll savour local fare expertly paired with local beer from The Second Wedge Brewing Co. As you ride the rails, colourful characters will regale you with train tales, local yarns and good-old fashioned live tunes.
Stop 4: THE SECOND WEDGE BREWING CO. (45 mins)
Meet the makers of fine ales and lagers at this plucky brew pub in the heart of Uxbridge. Sip flights of craft brew – including Gin Joint, which was created especially for the Temperance and Temptation tour. Keep your eyes peeled when you leave the joint…there are some bad eggs about. You may witness a hop-on as a bootlegger tries to evade the fuzz!
Stop 5: Ramada Jackson’s Point (1 hour 15 mins)
Check-in to your hotel room, freshen up and get ready for a fun-filled evening of great food, drinks and entertainment!
Stop 6: THE BRIARS RESORT & SPA (2.5 – 3 hours)
It’s Saturday night and we’re puttin’ on the Ritz at The Briars! This resort has been in the Sibbald family since the 1880s – right after the railway came to town. Here, you’ll enjoy a swell meal served up with a side of sweet tunes by the Bootlegger Band. Local characters will spin some yarns about the good old days and you’ll get the chance to cut the rug on the dance floor ‘til the wee hours.
Stop 1: HOLLAND MARSH WINERIES (1 hour)
Our tour wraps up at this traditional winery…set in an infamous bootlegging hot spot. See, Holland Marsh was the most notorious wetland in Ontario during Temperance. Moonshiners used it to squirrel their stills away from the prying eyes of the law. Luckily for us, we can freely enjoy a winery tour and tasting – without having to hide from the fuzz!
Stop 2: MARKET BREWING COMPANY (1hour 15mins)
Enjoy a lazy morning before we hop in the jitney to the next juice joint. At Market Brewing Company in Newmarket, you’ll tour the facility and sample their tasty suds before tucking in to a light lunch.
These exclusive, intimate and immersive VIP tours are filled with one-of-a kind experiences, performances, music and history. You’ll stay at the finest hotels while enjoying the decadent cuisine, award winning wines, specialty brews and top shelf cocktails. It truly is the “cat’s pajamas.”
