“Oshawa in the Roaring Twenties”, is a virtual talk with Nicole Adams, Local History and Genealogy Librarian at the Oshawa Public Libraries. Bringing together images from the collections of the Oshawa Museum, Oshawa Public Library and Thomas Bouckley Collection to explore what the roaring twenties meant to Oshawa, this virtual exhibition is part of a Cultural Tourism Initiative presented in partnership with the Pickering Village Museum, the Canadian Automotive Museum, Parkwood Estate, and Central Counties Tourism.

Despite voting itself dry since the 1800s, Pickering was anything but in the 1920s! Come enjoy a refreshing cup of tea (this is a temperate function after all!) with a homemade scone and sweet, followed by a talk about Pickering’s less-than-temperate decade.

The 1920s was a period of prosperity, political and social change, and economic growth, but it was also an age of high unemployment and racial injustice, when women had to fight for the right to be considered “persons” under the law. This exhibition brings together images from the collections of the Oshawa Museum, Oshawa Public Library and Thomas Bouckley Collection to explore what the roaring twenties meant to Oshawa.

For first time visitors, this is the recommended tour that will provide you with an overview of the entertaining spaces (main floor) of the Estate, as well as an introduction to the McLaughlin Family.

Hop in your jalopy and journey back in time to the Roaring 1920s. Learn about Pickering's toe-tapping music scene and how the dry days of prohibition led to bootlegging. Tickets are timed entry and must be purchased in advance. The tour is approximately 1 hour, and entirely drive thru.

Join the Canadian Automotive Museum’s expert tour guides as they explore downtown Oshawa's automotive landscape during the Roaring 20s. A 90-minute walking tour will start at the museum and then visit sites including the former GM assembly locations, early car dealerships, and the famous Hotel Genosha. This tour includes admission to the museum and will end with an overview of the 1920s automobiles on display. For those unable to attend in person, an audio version of the tour is available on the Canadian Automotive Museum's Podcast available on all major podcast directories.

In our new themed tour step back into the 1920s when glad rags were party clothes and giggle juice was illegal booze. Book at tour time for maximum 9 people. Tours are 45 minutes and are in-person walking tours, and must be booked in advance.
